EMDR Therapy
EMDR Therapy
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a therapy approach that helps the brain process distressing memories and experiences that may continue to affect how you feel, think, and respond in the present. Using bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements or tapping, EMDR supports the processing of difficult experiences so they may feel less overwhelming over time.
One thing that makes EMDR different from some other approaches to trauma therapy is that you don't necessarily have to retell your entire story or go into every detail of what happened. You and your therapist work together at a pace that feels manageable, focusing on the aspects of an experience that are relevant to your treatment. Although some attention to the memory is usually involved, you don't have to share every detail for EMDR to be helpful.
What can EMDR therapy help with?
-
Traumatic experiences can leave you feeling on edge, unsafe, or easily triggered, even long after the event has passed. EMDR helps you process distressing memories so they may feel less intense and have less influence over your present-day life.
-
Sometimes, anxiety is connected to past experiences that have left you feeling fearful, overwhelmed, or uncertain. EMDR may help you process these experiences and reduce the emotional responses that continue to show up in everyday situations.
-
Experiences such as bullying, emotional neglect, abuse, or difficult family relationships can shape how you see yourself and relate to others. EMDR can help you work through the lasting impact of these experiences and the beliefs or emotional responses that may have developed along the way.
-
Grief can involve distressing memories, overwhelming circumstances, or difficult moments surrounding a loss. EMDR may help you process particularly painful or traumatic aspects of loss, making it easier to carry those memories without feeling as overwhelmed by them.
-
Difficult experiences can contribute to beliefs such as “I'm not good enough,” “I'm not safe,” or “It was my fault.” EMDR can help you process memories connected to these beliefs and develop a more compassionate, balanced view of yourself.
-
You may find yourself reacting strongly to certain situations, conversations, or reminders without fully understanding why. When these reactions are connected to distressing memories, EMDR may help reduce their intensity, allowing you to feel more grounded and respond to the present rather than feeling pulled back into the past.
-
Some fears are connected to frightening or distressing experiences. EMDR may help process memories associated with certain fears, reducing the distress they bring up and supporting a greater sense of confidence and safety.
Types of EMDR Services
EMDR Therapy:
This session is for clients who have already completed preparation and are ready to begin EMDR reprocessing. You will work together with the therapist, to target stuck memories or patterns, using a trauma-informed, collaborative approach to help your brain and body process and heal. Do not book an EMDR session if you have not yet met with the therapist, please book an Individual Therapy Session to begin
Not sure if EMDR is right for you? Book a regular individual therapy session, and you can explore with the therapist, whether EMDR might be a good fit for you.
EMDR Intensive:
An EMDR Intensive is an extended session designed to help you move through trauma or stuck patterns more quickly and deeply than traditional weekly therapy. Rather than spreading EMDR over multiple short sessions, intensives allow for deeper focus and momentum in a safe, supportive space.
Who is it for?
EMDR intensives are ideal for:
• Clients already working with me who feel ready to go deeper
• People who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or looping on a specific issue
• Those with busy schedules who prefer focused, accelerated healing
What to expect:
We’ll start by briefly checking in, reviewing your goals, and preparing your nervous system. The bulk of the session will be focused EMDR reprocessing, with time at the end to ground, reflect, and integrate. I’ll provide a personalized aftercare plan so you leave feeling supported and steady.
If you’re unsure whether an intensive is right for you, feel free to book a standard individual session and you can discuss it with the therapist.
