Mais Haj-Ayoub (she/her)
Psychotherapy Intern
Hello, I’m Mais, a student psychotherapist currently completing my Master of Arts in Spiritual Care and Psychotherapy at Wilfrid Laurier University. I also hold an Honours BA in psychology and have previous work and volunteer experience in community service agencies, where I have supported both youth and adults and developed a great passion for mental health.
I recognize how deeply our mental well-being affects every aspect of our lives and hope always to help people along their journey of self-discovery and healing. Taking the first step toward therapy isn’t always easy, but it’s a sign of strength, hope, and change. My goal is to create a safe and supportive space where you feel heard, validated, and empowered to continue on that journey and navigate life’s challenges with confidence.
I have experience working with individuals across diverse backgrounds, including children and adolescents struggling with emotional and behavioural challenges, and adults navigating housing instability and mental health challenges. My involvement with organizations such as Family and Children's Services, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Kids Help Phone informs my work and has instilled a deep passion for supporting children and adolescents to grow and achieve their unique goals. I greatly enjoy witnessing the creativity, resilience, and intelligence of young individuals and approach our work together with an emphasis on prevention and early intervention.
My approach to therapy is warm, relational, and strengths-based. I know how hard it can be to feel alone in facing life’s challenges, so my goal is to help you feel understood, build resilience, and gain confidence in your path towards growth and change. I draw on modalities including solution-focused, expressive arts, play-informed, and narrative therapy, tailoring my approach to best suit your individual needs and goals. My area of focus includes support with challenges such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, emotional dysregulation, and relationship/family challenges.
Outside of therapy, I love reading fiction novels, watching reality TV, and spending time with friends and family.
